The family of 62-year-old Christopher Singh, the man who was knocked down and killed on the Rupert Craig Highway almost two weeks ago, is pleading with the relevant authorities to speed up the investigation so that “justice can be served”.
Singh was reportedly riding his motorcycle, CH 5818, north along the University of Guyana (UG) road, and was crossing the Rupert Craig Highway when he collided with a bus, which pitched him several feet off of his bike.
He was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to Singh’s son, Ram, the driver of the bus had related to the police than Singh had jumped the light while he was crossing the road, which resulted in the collision, which was not true. Ram said that the driver keeps saying that his father collided with the bus head-on but the damage to his motorcycle suggested otherwise.
He said the family was disappointed that it was taking the police so long to charge the driver. “It’s even disrespectful that he’s back on the road driving and all kind of things…,” the man’s son told Stabroek News.
He added that while still distraught and shocked by the loss the family wanted the authorities to bring the driver of the bus to justice. The man related that they found out that the file was with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“Even so, it’s been too long and he shoulda been charge long now. Never once did he [driver of the bus] even come once and tell us anything or give us condolences. Not one time did he come,” Singh’s wife also related to Stabroek News.
An eyewitnesses had also explained to Stabroek News that the bus driver’s recount of the accident was incorrect and that it was the driver who had jumped the light.
