A labourer was on Monday evening arrested after he was allegedly caught throwing a bag containing a quantity of prohibited items including several grammes of cannabis over the fence of the George-town Prison.
According to a police press release, around 21:30 hrs on Monday, an alert rank securing a section of the outer perimeter of the Georgetown Prison observed the labourer with a bulky bag which he “swiftly threw over (the) north-eastern fence of the fence and attempted to flee the area”.
He was promptly arrested by the said officer who immediately communicated what transpired, the police said.
The bag was retrieved shortly after and it was discovered that it contained a number of prohibited items including ten packs of cigarettes, a cellular phone and 793 grams of cannabis.
The man is presently in police custody and is co-operating with investigators. He is likely to appear in court soon.
