The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League will resume today at the Tucville Community Centre ground with Berbice unit Monedderlust opposing Buxton United from 18:30hrs.
The rescheduled fixture is extremely important for both sides for contrasting reasons. For the Berbicians and cellar occupant, a win is required if they are to possess any chance of avoiding relegation.
A loss would seal their relegation from the championship as they currently sit on three points and only have one more game to play. On the other hand, the East Coast of Demerara unit requires a victory to reclaim third position from arch-rival Victoria Kings. A loss, however, would put Victoria Kings in an unwanted position as they would require a draw in their final fixture to avoid the possibility of relegation. Presently they are sits on nine points.
The top two positions in the tournament are occupied by undefeated league leaders the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and second placed Fruta Conquerors.
The GDF secured the championship following their lopsided 4-1 win over Topp XX in the previous fixture held at the same venue on Friday. Although still with a game in hand, the army unit romped to a perfect 27 points to secure the title. They will also pocket the first place package of $6,000,000 and the championship trophy.
Meanwhile, Fruta Conquerors secured the runners-up position after defeating Buxton United 2-0. The Tucville based outfit accumulated 22 points to earn the runners-up bundle of $3,000,000 and trophy.
The battle will now resume for the third and fourth place packages of $2,000,000 and $1,000,000 respectively.
