A mason was yesterday remanded to prison, after he was charged with being in possession of cannabis.
Mark Gravesande, of Westminster, La Parfaite Harmonie, was read the charge by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
According to the charge, the 18 year-old youth, on May 8, at Lombard and Hadfield streets had 793 grammes (equivalent to 1.7 pounds) of cannabis in his possession for trafficking.
The defendant denied the allegation, telling the court that he had no idea what was in the bag. He said that he had been asked by a man he knew from his village ‘to carry the bag down’ when he was going home.
Gravesande told the court t+hat he found out what was in the bag when the police told him he had cannabis.
Subsequently, Magistrate Azore remanded the defendant and adjourned the matter to May 31.
