The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has formally announced its final squad to tackle Barbados in the RAN 15s Championship opener on Saturday at the Garrison Savannah.
According to a release, the squad of 23 who will don the colors of the Golden Arrowhead, has a good base of experienced players and hungry ruggers looking to cement a place in the national outfit.
Dubbed the ‘Green Machine’ the national team won the South Zone title last year after defeating the teams in their path. Barbados was one of them, losing 48-17.
Guyana is the current runner up to Mexico in the Regional 15s Championships as well as current Regional 7s Caribbean Champions. The team departs for its first away match against on Friday and will return on Monday.
The players traveling are as follows: Ryan Gonsalves (captain), Jason Tyrell, Allain Crawford, Rondell McArthur, Dwayne Schroeder, Kevon David, Jamal Angus, Richard Staglon, Vallon Adams, Peabo Hamilton, Avery Corbin, Ronald Mayers, Troyton Braithwaite, Patrick King, Joseph Rahaman, Cyon Kitt, Ahmed Isaacs, Toby David, Osei McKenzie, Godfrey Broomes, Sean Phillips, Rickford Cummings and Blaize Bailey.
Elwin Chase will be tasked with the managerial duties while Shane Grant-Stuart has been named as the coach.
