President David Granger says he is deeply saddened at the death of Tchaiko Kwayana, the wife of Eusi Kwayana, who he said tirelessly fought for the rights of the African community and the Guyanese nation. “Her activism in the African Society for Cultural Relations with Independent Africa (ASCRIA) and the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) as well as her support for the rights of women and children will be remembered.
“Despite returning to the United State of America, the country of her birth, Ms. Tchaiko Kwayana continued to support the Guyanese society through the Helping Uplift Guyana (HUG) organisation, which she co-founded”, the President said.
He extended condolences to Eusi Kwayana and their children, Kofi, Iyabo and Baako Kwayana and other family members of the late Mrs Kwayana.
Tchaiko Kwayana died on Saturday in the United States. Her home going celebration will be on May 16th in Atlanta, Georgia.
