Auditions are set to begin tomorrow for prospective members of Guyana’s 60-person contingent for Carifesta XIII, which is slated for August 17th to August 27th in Barbados.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) report said auditions will be hosted from 2pm tomorrow at the Umana Yana, at Kingston, Georgetown, for members of the Performing Arts section of the contingent.
The section comprises performers in the Drama, Music and Dance categories, who are expected to portray the theme ‘Guyana – An Emerging Green State.’
In the category of Drama, as the intention is to select the “best new Guyanese play from the National Drama Festival,” only those plays that won in their respective categories at last year’s festival will be eligible for the auditions.
The report stated that the play should be in keeping with the themes that reflect the “identity, interests and preoccupations of Guyana,” and that cast members should be versatile in the varying genres of drama. That is, cast members of the play should include individuals who can perform in other areas, such as storytelling and spoken word, as well as have the ability to conduct workshops.
The cast of the play should fall within the 18 to 30 age range.
For the music category, only the winners of the minor categories in the Mashramani 2017 National Steelband Competition will be eligible to audition. Those include the winners of the Pan Jazz, Pan Duet and Pan Solo categories.
Those auditioning in this category are also required to be within the 18 to 30 age range.
The Dance auditions are open to any dance company that has been around for at least five years, and whose members are trained in at least three different styles of dance. Members of the dance group should also be able to conduct workshops during the festival.
The report said there would no individual auditions as the organisers are catering for groups. Each audition would last for a 10 minutes and registration would be done at the venue. Interested persons are asked to contact 604-7712, 641-7364, 696-1193 for any further information.
