The man who threw bags with contraband, including marijuana and a phone, into the compound of the Camp Street Prison on Monday, has been sentenced to four years in jail.
Raymond Marks receiv-ed the sentence yesterday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on a charge of possession of cannabis for trafficking.
It was alleged that on May 8th, at the George-town Prison, he had 793 grammes of cannabis for trafficking in his possession.
Marks pleaded guilty to the crime and he told the magistrate that he did not want to waste the court’s time. The man said it was his first time before a court.
Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that Marks was seen throwing two bulky potato bags over the prison walls. He added that when the bags were retrieved, the narcotics mentioned in the charge were found. Marks later admitted to committing the crime, and having knowledge of the drugs in the bag, he added.
Subsequently, Magistrate Leron Daly sentenced Marks. He was also fined $30,000.
