A mason, who is accused of robbing a busload of Qualfon workers, is now a remanded prisoner after facing 11 armed robbery charges yesterday.
Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charges to Quincy Clarke, 29, who allegedly committed the attack on 11 persons on May 12 at North/East La Penitence, while armed with a gun and in the company of others.
Although no details were presented to the court, a police source stated that Clarke allegedly held up a Qualfon bus. During the attack, he allegedly commanded the passengers to lie on the ground and relieved them of their articles, which included gold and silver jewellery, cellphones, a passport, cash and other items, all totalling over $400,000 in value.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail being granted. In addition to highlighting the seriousness of the offence, the penalty it attracts and the fact that a firearm was used, Gonsalves stated that when Clarke was arrested and the allegations were put to him, he admitted, in a caution statement, to the crimes.
Magistrate Latchman also heard that in 2016 Clarke had been charged previously with a similar offence and the investigating rank told her that additional charges were likely to be brought against the man.
As a result, Magistrate Latchman denied Clarke his release and adjourned the matter until June 12.
