Winston Haynes, the ex-soldier who was charged in March, with raping a young woman at Camp Stephenson, Timehri, was yesterday committed to stand trial at the High Court for the crime.
Haynes, also known as ‘Carlos,’ is accused of raping the 21-year-old woman in January.
The defendant, who was represented by attorney Dexter Todd, was committed to stand trial by presiding magistrate Judy Latchman at the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry yesterday.
Haynes will stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
The defendant, who was previously granted $600,000 bail, will remain on bail until the matter is called at the High Court.
The preliminary inquiry was held in-camera.
