Dear Editor,
I refer to the article ‘Vice-Chairman of Harbour Bridge Board living in fear after break-ins -no response by police despite reports’ published in Stabroek News on Saturday, May 13, 2017. The article contains the following statement: “Holder, 80, told Stabroek News yesterday that the pre-dawn break-ins occurred on Tuesday and Thursday and although reports were made to the police, they are yet to visit.”
This is to inform you that my written reports on the break-ins were delivered to a detective from East La Penitence Police Station, who visited my home on Thursday afternoon and had a look around the house and yard.
He said that he would arrange for detectives to visit the next day to carry out detailed investigations. On Saturday three detectives visited my home, two from CID Headquarters and one from East La Penitence Police Station (not the one who came on Thursday). They conducted a thorough investigation of the house and the surrounding yard and took a statement about the two incidents. The statement in the Stabroek News quoted above about the police who “are yet to visit” referred to the detectives who were expected to come to do the detailed investigations on Friday, but in fact arrived on Saturday with an explanation why they could not come on Friday.
Yours faithfully,
Joseph Holder
