The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) could possibly conduct a forensic audit on the tenure of the Normalization Committee (NC), pending the approval of the membership at its Congress on May 27th.
This revelation was shared by sources close to the federation. According to those sources, “It will be discussed at the Congress.
“We will let the congress decide, a forensic audit could cost over a million Guyana dollars but more than likely that will be the path”.
The NC, which was headed by Clinton Urling, was installed during the month of October 2014 to run the affairs of football in Guyana after FIFA disbanded the Christopher Matthias administration following a turbulent period.
The other members of the body were Guyana Olympic Association stalwart Dr. Karen Pilgrim, former squash player and executive Tariq Williams, Stuart May and Rabin Chandarpal.
The sources declared, “They should be [a forensic audit], FIFA stopped all of their funding since they took over because since the audit of the NC [Normalization Committee] period was submitted to them, they said it had a lot of irregularities and they stopped Guyana’s funding pending an investigation.”
While the exact amount of funding received by the entity has never been made public, the sources said that they would not rule out a sum in the region of US$1,000,000 from the world body. A large portion of the funding, however was supposedly used to lower the debt of the GFF which allegedly exceeded GYD$70 million.
“The NC had the most of amount of money that Guyana ever received in any year by a far margin. They got all [former GFF President Christopher] Matthias money, all the bonuses because FIFA was trying to help out Guyana,” said the sources.
They added, “Less than four million was left by the NC. It wasn’t a big issue because they [Wayne Forde administration] thought they would they would have received money. Everything was frozen pending an investigation.”
