The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) yesterday teamed up with one of Guyana’s leading insurance companies, Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company Limited, for the second year running to stage the annual Under-19 Inter-County one and three-day tournaments.
The launching took place at the insurance company’s head office, Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown where Director and Fire Manager Howard Cox reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Guyana’s cricket.

“We are happy to continue our sponsorship and association with the board for this competition,” Cox said.
“Hand-in-Hand is pleased to be associated with this competition and will continue to lend its support,” he added.
He lauded the efforts of the board and the local players for the noticeable improvement the players would have enjoyed over the recent years.
Cox also highlighted young Shimron Hetymer’s selection to the West Indies senior team, referring to him as a “product of the Hand-in-Hand sponsored Inter-County competition.
Meanwhile, secretary of the board Anand Sanasie, thanked the insurance giant for the partnership while also echoing some of Cox’s sentiments by highlighting Guyana’s recent success at the regional level at the different age group levels.
He also informed the media of the selection of the Guyanese duo in Joshua Persaud and Bhaskar Yadram, who were selected for the West Indies Under-19 team’s tour of South Africa, later this month.
Both players were present at the launch where Sanasie pointed out that their selection was as a result of competition sponsorship from companies like Hand-in-Hand.
The competition, which has its traditional one–day and three-day format will begin with the limited overs matches May 29th with defending champions Demerara opposing the select Under–17 team at the Lusignan Community Center ground while Berbice will come up against Essequibo at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
