Guyanese duo Bhaskar Yadram and Joshua Persaud have earned themselves West Indies Under – 19 selections to tour the continent of Africa from June 20th to July 30th.
The West Indie U19 team will play five One-Day Internationals (ODI) against South Africa’s Under- 19s. The Caribbean side will also journey to Zimbabwe for further ODI engagements.
Yadram, a talented right-hand opening batsman who made his first-class debut against the Leewards Island
Hurricanes in this year’s Regional four-day tournament, said that he intends to capitalise on the experience in an effort to continue his steady progression.
“I’m looking to stay positive and have a positive mindset and hopefully score as many runs as possible. I’m also focussed on getting that technique right and I’m hoping to take away new things from the game. The aim is to come back and display the skills that I learn,” Yadram said.
The right-hander also told Stabroek Sports that he does intend to keep his place in the senior Jaguars team albeit admitting that it is going to be a tough challenge.
“Well, I’m working hard to keep my place in the Guyana team, it’s not going to be easy but I know that I’ll have to keep performing to the best of my ability and hopefully, at the end of the season, I’ll keep my spot in the team,” the 17-year old acknowledged.
Persaud, a wicket-keeper batsman, on the other hand, said that the experience Will be a dream come though as he too will be aiming to make the best of his opportunity.
“It’s a great feeling being selected. It’s a dream come through for any youngster who gains selection to the West Indies team,” a chirpy Persaud said.
The youngster pointed out that he is keen on gaining new knowledge from the West Indies environment while thanking God, his family, and friends for the support they would have given to him over the years.
The pair will depart for a camp, set for Barbados from the 25 – 27 of June after which they will journey to Africa for their encounters against South Africa and Zimbabwe from June 30th to July 20th.
