Two armed bandits yesterday afternoon attacked a Leonora, West Coast Demerara Supermarket and carted off cash and other valuables.
Police Commander of ‘Division, Leslie James yesterday told Stabroek News that the robbery occurred at around 2.30 pm at the A&N supermarket owned and operated by Alisia Pareshram.
According to James, the men went to the supermarket posing as customers and ordered two alcoholic beverages.
He said that a staffer directed the men to a refrigerator with the beverages but at the same time one of the bandits whipped out a gun from his waist and instructed the staff and the owner to remain quiet.
During the ordeal, one of the men ran through the cash register and collected approximately $300,000 in cash. Meanwhile the other bandit who held up Pareshram and her staff relieved them of their cellular phones and jewellery.
The men then jumped into a waiting car and escaped.
