A Police Constable was yesterday placed on self-bail after denying an assault charge.
Dwayne Dodson, 26, of Lot 2601 Kaikan Street North Ruimveldt, was charged with unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous and bodily harm on Donald Mahadeo on October 16, 2016, at the National Park.
Dodson, who is attached to the Special Branch unit, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore informed the court that he had no objections to the accused being granted bail.
Moore told the court that other persons as well as Dodson’s twin brother were already charged in connection with the incident. He also informed the court that the matter was also before the Police Complaints Authority.
Dodson was subsequently released on self-bail and was ordered to return to court on May 22 for his next hearing.
