A fugitive is among four men who were arrested yesterday in the city by police, who also recovered a gun and matching ammunition in one of the two vehicles in which the men were travelling.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed to Stabroek News that the four men were arrested by the police yesterday afternoon, sometime after 12.30 pm.
According to a police source, the police were acting on a tip off, which led them to trail the four men, who were traveling in two separate cars, a Toyota 212 and a Toyota Allion, with both bearing what they suspect to be false licence plates.
The men were apprehended at Duncan and Sheriff streets, George-town.
The source said that the police approached the men and asked them to disembark the cars, and a search was carried out on the men and on the two vehicles. During the search, the police found a 9mm pistol, ammunition and number plates in one of the vehicles.
The source also revealed to Stabroek News that one of the men is wanted for several armed robberies on the West Coast of Demerara, while up to late yesterday the police were still trying to confirm whether another one of the group may have had a warrant issued for his arrest.
According to the police source, they are unsure where the men were heading at the time of their apprehension.
