Thomas United, Pele FC, Santos FC and Plaisance secured hard-fought wins, when the Alex Bunbury Sports and Academic Academy (ABSAA) coordinated ‘Clash of Veterans’ football tournament continued on Saturday.
Staged at the Tucville Community Ground, Thomas United edged Park Rangers 2-1. An own goal and a Rawle Gibbons conversion secured the win for the undefeated Thomas United outfit. For the losers, Vivian Watunoa netted.
Similarly, Pele downed Kitty by an identical score line. Rawle Jones and Dirk Exeter were on target in the victory, while Clifford Bartholomew found the back of the net in the loss.
Meanwhile, Santos squeaked past Beacons FC 2-1. Gerald Gittens and Chris Dugan scored for the winner. On target in the loss was Quinton Boyce. In the final fixture, Plaisance overcame Rastas 3-2.
The tournament which will continue on Wednesday at the same venue, is being played in a league format featuring teams from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Bank Demerara.
Trophies as well as cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the event.
