The date for the completion of repairs to the Liliendaal Bridge on the Railway Embankment road has been pushed back to the end of the month because of the inclement weather.
According to Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Desilon Daniels, the inclement weather has forced the repairs to the bridge from its prior finish date of yesterday to month end.
Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson had told Stabroek News at the starting of the month that the contractor was working with a deadline of May 22 since they wanted to finish the project before the Independence anniversary. The bridge was closed in March.
Work to the tune of $89M will see the bridge converted to a prestressed concrete structure.
The closure of the Liliendaal Bridge has created traffic backups on the East Coast Highway.
