HOVE, England, CMC – Sussex ended day two of their Division Two County Championship match against Durham in command, following Barbadian seamer Jofra Archer’s five-wicket haul on Sunday and centuries from Luke Wells and Stiaan van Zyl yesterday.
Asked to bat first, Durham were dismissed for 287 with right-armer Archer continuing his impressive form with five for 76.
For the 22-year-old, it was his second five-wicket haul in his 10th first class match.
He shared the new ball with South African Test seamer Vernon Philander and together they reduced the innings to 90 for four before Paul Coughlin top-scored with 73 and Ryan Pringle got 60, in a 110-run, sixth wicket stand which revived Durham.
However, Archer returned to take three of the last five wickets which tumbled for 48 runs. Resuming yesterday at 43 for one, Sussex were fired by a magnificent 258 from the 26-year-old Wells and an unbeaten 141 from South African van Zyl.
The pair put on 376 for the third wicket to pull Sussex around from 43 for two in the first over of the morning.
