Sattee Bharrat, the proprietress of City Taxi Service, passed away on Sunday.
She was 93.
Bharrat, a mother of eight sons, of Lot 8 Vlissingen road, died at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after suffering from a brief illness. She is to be cremated today at Unity Crematorium East Coast Demerara.
Her body would be at her home for viewing from 10 am today.
Bharrat was remembered for her kindness and humanity towards others, daughter-in-law Esther told Stabroek News yesterday. “I married and come into the family and she always called me her daughter… she was such a loving, caring and peaceful person,” the woman said.
Bharrat is survived by five of her sons, one of whom is the proprietor of Eddie’s Taxi Service, as well as grandchildren and other relatives.
Bharrat and her husband started the taxi service in 1968 following the closure of the Bookers Estate.
Esther explained that the couple was given the option of choosing between money and a car and they chose the car, which was the foundation for the service that was birthed under the name of City Garage before it was later changed to City Taxi Service.
The business is currently being operated by Esther and her husband, Gandy Bharrat.
