Armed bandits on Tuesday carried out a brazen daylight attack on a vendor at La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Tirbeni Somnauth, of Lot 88 Independence Street, La Grange, WBD, told Stabroek News that he was robbed of approximately $200,000 in cash and phone cards in the robbery, which occurred while he was attending to some customers.
According to the Somnauth, it was around 2pm on Tuesday when the two men, one of whom was armed with a gun, approached him and demanded that he “pass up the money.” “I does sell grocery in my canter and at the time I had some customers I was selling when these men just come up to me and ask for money. One of them just lash me in my face with the gun and they get away,” he explained.
The men reportedly parked their car a street away from where they carried out the attack on Somnauth. After the attack, they joined the car and fled the scene.
Residents transported Somnauth to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was treated for the injuries that he suffered due to being hit to the face with the gun.
A report was made at the La Grange Police station and investigations are ongoing. No arrest has yet been made.
