The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is set to stage its annual congress at the Park Vue International, Farm, East Bank Demerara, today from 10:00 am.
Pertinent issues relating to the development of the sport are expected to be discussed in an effort to further move the progression of football along.
President of the GFF Wayne Forde, in an interview with Stabroek Sports indicated that today’s congress will see the presentation of the GFF’s five-year strategic play, titled ‘finding out focus.’
“We are going be sharing our five-year strategic plan, which is called `Finding our focus,’” Ford said. The president who was elected just over 17-months ago added: “We are expected to have significant participation from the members of the GFF.
“We are also expected to talk about the Membership Financial Assistance Programme (MFAP), the technical development structure, youth development strategy while also discussing the Elite league and the way forward for the league,” Ford added.
He briefly mentioned that the congress will hold discussions surrounding the issue of clubs withdrawing their participation from the just concluded Stag Elite League in an effort to prevent same from reoccurring.
Another important topic on the agenda according to Forde will be the presentation of the disciplinary and appeals regulations codes of conducts which will be used to guide the operational actions of the two committees,[disciplinary and appeals]
That presentation, according to Forde, will be done by a FIFA consultant.
Other areas of focus should see the presentation of the GFF’s financial report, a presentation from Trinidadian guest speaker Richard Groden, who acted as the interim general secretary during the transition period where the normalization committee relinquished its duties so as to facilitate the operations of the GFF.
Forde, however, when asked if he was heading into today’s congress a happy camper, emphatically stated that he is, noting several developments under his watch.
“I think the members [GFF] would have seen a vast improvement of football in Guyana. We have been delivering on our campaign promises made. We’ve seen the financial assistance programme and the nationwide academy training programme. We will also be launching our under – 13 and 20 leagues,” Forde said, while adding, “In all fairness, we have been delivering under difficult circumstance.” “The executive committee sees themselves as servants of the sport. We want to improve members so that they can perform in their districts,” he concluded.
