A Venezuelan national is currently hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was injured in a shooting incident in his home country on Saturday.
Stabroek News understands that the injured man, Andre Gouveia, 34, was admitted as a patient at the hospital after being transferred from a health facility in Port Kaituma, Region 1 (Barima-Waini) where he first sought medical attention.
Police Commander of ‘F’ Division, Ravendradat Budhram yesterday confirmed that Gouveia was indeed hospitalised and was transferred. He explained that from information provided by Gouveia to the police he was at a shop in Venezuela close to the Guyana border when a group of men opened fire.
As a result, he sustained three gunshot wounds and ventured into Guyana to seek medical attention. Stabroek News was told that he sustained injuries to his right arm, left hand and right leg.
The commander stated that they are unable to conduct any investigations since the shooting occurred in the neighbouring country.
