A Princes Street resident who was charged with having over 20 grammes of marijuana in his possession, was yesterday remanded to prison.
The courtroom of Magistrate Fabayo Azore, heard that Aubrey Price, 23, of 70, Princes Street, Lodge, on May 24, at Princes Street, had in his possession 26 .5 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. Price who was represented by Bernard Da Silva, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to Da Silva, his client who is a vendor, was at home when the police made a visit and conducted a search. He said that when Price was in the front section of the house, an officer who was searching at the back, came to him with a bag, and told the accused that he had found the suspected cannabis in the house. He argued that the narcotics were not found on his client. Da Silva added that his client was later taken to the Brickdam Police Station for questioning, and was later released on $30,000 bail.
However, Police Prosecutor Simone Payne, who objected to bail, citing reasons such as the nature and gravity of the offence, told the court that her facts differ from that of Price’s attorney. The prosecutor told the court that based on her short facts provided by the police, the narcotics had been found on the accused.
After listening to submissions from the defence counsel and the prosecutor, Magistrate Azore remanded Price to prison. His matter was adjourned until June 14 for report.
