Although cleared of causing the death of traffic policeman Nakosi ‘Kelvin’ LaFleur, driver Ron Cole was yesterday sentenced to six months in jail on the lesser charge of dangerous driving.
Cole was found guilty by trial magistrate Leron Daly of causing LaFleur’s death on April 11, 2016, along the Eccles Public Road, by driving motor car GRR 3955 in a manner dangerous to the public. He was found not guilty of causing LaFleur’s death at the previous hearing after Magistrate Daly upheld a no-case submission made by Cole’s attorney, Leslyn Charles.
It was stated that although the prosecution proved that Cole, of Lot 15 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, drove dangerously, there was no proof that it was the defendant’s dangerous driving that resulted in the death of LaFleur.
Magistrate Daly, after the reading of the probation report by the probation officer, sentenced the defendant to six months in jail. Cole’s licence will also be suspended for two years.
