The police yesterday morning arrested a second suspect in the murder of mechanic Terrence Lanferman, who was gunned down at his Mocha, East Bank Demerara home two years ago.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that the police, acting on information, arrested the suspect, who has been identifed as Sedley Liverpool, called “Birdman,” of Mocha, at Mabura.
At the time of his arrest, he was in a minibus heading to Omai.
Another man, Kenkassie Lynch, 21, a welder, had allegedly confessed to the crime following his arrest in April last year. He was charged with murder and was recently committed to stand trial at the High Court.
Lynch had reportedly told investigators that the crime was planned by himself and a cousin but was carried out by him alone. It was unclear up to yesterday afternoon if Liverpool was the cousin.
Lanferman, 23, of Lot 127 Nelson Street, Mocha, was shot dead execution-style at his home around 7.30 pm on June 1, 2015. He received two gunshot wounds, to the chest and neck, and was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
At the time, he was the lone occupant of the bottom-flat of the two-storey house, where he resided with his mother.
Lynch had reportedly said that he had just returned from Cayenne before the murder with an unregistered CG motorcycle and he went to visit his aunt in Mocha, where he met the cousin.
He is said to have told investigators his cousin told him that he had an issue with Lanferman and he wanted to settle it permanently but he couldn’t do so himself since he was well known in Mocha and the villagers would likely speak.
As a result, the suspect reportedly told his cousin to point out Lanferman and he would deal with the matter. He allegedly said his cousin showed him where Lanferman lived and at about 7pm on the same evening, the cousin provided him with a gun and took him again to Lanferman’s house. There, Lynch reportedly knocked on the door and when Lanferman opened it he shot him.
