A Kaneville, East Bank Demerara resident is now a remanded prisoner after being charged with the armed robbery of two Golden Grove women.
Keon Ashby, 22, of 1002 Fourth Field, Kaneville, appeared before city magistrate Sunil Scarce and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The charged stated that on May 30th, while being armed with a dangerous weapon, Ashby robbed Sumitra Deonarine and her daughter Gangadai Narine.
Ashby was refused bail and remanded until June 8th, when the case is to be called for a report and statements.
Narine, 54, of 865 Block-Y Section C, Golden Grove and her 81-year-old mother, Deonarine, were robbed of $100,000 in cash and two gold rings during the brazen early morning robbery.
The mother and daughter were having breakfast on Tuesday morning when three men entered their yard and requested drinks.
Narine, who sells drinks and groceries from her home, recounted that as she went into the house to collect the drinks, one of the men followed her and the other two later escorted her mother inside.
Narine said the men, who threatened to kill them if they screamed, ordered her to hand over her valuables, which she did. She said the men gun-butted her, resulting in an injury to her head, during the attack.
