A man was yesterday remanded to prison after a court heard that he allegedly stabbed his wife and attempted to cut her neck.
Jairam Alexander, 24, was hauled before city magistrate Leron Daly, who read a charge which stated that on May 20th, at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded his common-law wife.
Alexander denied the charge after it was read to him.
According to the case presented by police prosecutor Suraj Singh, on the day of the attack, Alexander, who frequently abuses his wife, asked her for money. She, however, refused to give him and Alexander subsequently armed himself with a knife and stabbed her in the region of her abdomen. The prosecutor added that Alexander then attempted to cut the woman’s neck.
After hearing the prosecution’s submissions, Magistrate Daly subsequently remanded Alexander and adjourned the matter to June 23rd.
