Residents living in parts of Georgetown, Berbice and Bartica will soon benefit from improved roadways within their communities as Cabinet has greenlit contracts totalling more than $400 million for the construction and rehabilitation of urban roads.
This was revealed by Minister of State Joseph Harmon during a post cabinet press briefing on Friday.
In listing the contracts, he said that in Region Four $21.37 million will be spent on Cane View Avenue between Penny Lane and Fern Drive, South Ruimveldt; $26.13 million on D’Andrade Street, Newtown, Kitty; $41.53 million on Front Road, Block ‘E’, Sophia; $41.33 million on Plum Park, Sophia road network; $27.54 million on Section ‘K’ Campbellville road network and $56.16 million on ‘D’ Field, Sophia main access Phase 2 (continuation). Associated Construction Services, Shereaz Bacchus General Contractor, S Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Service, H Nauth and Sons, XL Engineering and BK International Incorporated are the respective contractors.
In Region Six, $21.26 million will be spent on Middle Street, Princeton, Corriverton; $30.45 million on Second Cross, south of the public road, Rose Hall; $19.23 million on Republic and King streets (Phase 2), New Amsterdam and $19.98 million on Main Street (Phase 1), New Amsterdam. SYMS General Contractors Incorporated, Dennis Tahal Engineering and Associated Construction Services were awarded the contracts.
Harmon said that in Bartica, $30 million will be spent on the Main access road, Four Miles Housing Scheme; $23.88 million on Mongrippa Hill road network and $38.503 million on Front Road, Byderado. KP Thomas and Sons Contracting Incorporated, Bardon Construction Services and XL Engineering were awarded these contracts.
Additionally Cabinet has greenlit US$230.613 for the procurement of cargo x-ray machine for the Cheddi Jagan International Airport by L3 communities Security and Detection Systems.
Further a $15.71 million contract for the construction and delivery of school furniture to secondary schools and the Practical Instruction Centre in Georgetown has also been green lit. The contact was awarded to the Government Technical Institute.
Contracts for consultancy for the design of civil works for the construction of three general secondary schools and for the design and supervision of civil works under the University of Guyana Science and Technology Support Project have also been greenlight. The first set was awarded to VIKAB Engineering Consultants VIKAB (Guyana) Limited NLBA Architects Limited and Jain Consultant (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited to the tune of US$231,151.18, an increase of US$47,036.47 on the original price. The second contract was awarded to Hydea, Italy and RPA Rossiprodi Associati, Italy to the tune of US$384,307.99, an increase of US$7,122.99 on the original price.
With regard to development works, Harmon told reporters that Cabinet has greenlit a $15.76 million contract awarded to Roopchand Ramotar Investments for the empoldering of farmlands in Kabakaburi, Upper Pomeroon, Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region Two).
The final contract greenlit by Cabinet is worth $72.81 million and was awarded to Fyffe Building and Contracting Works for the construction of Infantry Accommodation, Block 1, Camp Stephenson, Timehri.
