Georgetown Hospital removes all drugs from NGPC bond

The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday abruptly removed all pharmaceuticals and medical supplies from the New GPC bond at Industrial Site, Ruimveldt without clearing its over $50M debt, a move that has left the company perplexed.

“They just showed up and told us they are removing all the drugs they have here. It was everything they had and none of the drugs collected were expired,” a representative of New GPC told this newspaper.

“The (GPHC)  CEO, Allan Johnson, was there. He said he came to see everything because when the media asks him he has to answer,” the source added.

When this newspaper arrived at the bond, Johnson was seen leaving in the front seat of a heavily tinted GPHC minibus.

Stabroek News reached out to Johnson for comment but calls to him and the hospital’s Chairman, Kesaundra Alves were not immediately returned.

This newspaper also tried contacting Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence but was told by Public Relations Officer Terrence Esseboom that she was at Cabinet.

It took over 10 trips by canter truck to remove the drugs  from Industrial Site to the GPHC’s bond located in the compound of the Ministry of Health’s Materials Management Unit (MMU) in Kingston.

MMU officials distanced themselves from yesterday’s activity as when this newspaper inquired as to who ordered the removal and storage the employees directed all queries to the GPHC.

“They are a corporation and handle their business separate from us. That is their bond and they come and go as they please and do whatever they want to over there. We have a structured system where we report to the Ministry of Health and have our stuff documented. I have never even been into that building… you would have to check with their CEO,” a MMU employee said.
