A boat was completely destroyed on Friday morning after it caught afire on the Cuyuni River when a gas stove hose reportedly slipped out; eight persons who were on board at the time manage to escape.
The incident occurred around 06:00 hrs Friday. At the time, eight persons including the captain Paul Lewis were onboard. They jumped into the river and swam to safety.
Information reaching Stabroek News revealed that the boat was travelling along the Cuyuni River when the hose which is attached to the gas bottle slipped out just as the cook was attempting to light the gas stove, resulting in a blaze. No one was injured and an investigation has been launched.
