Less than three weeks after the police issued a wanted bulletin for him, Ezekiel Edward who was wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Roy Roland yesterday turned himself over to the police.
This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who told Stabroek News that the suspect turned himself in yesterday in company of his lawyer. He remains in custody as investigations continue and he is likely to be charged soon.
On May 26, police issued a wanted bulletin for Ezekiel Edward called ‘Kezie’, 27, of Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
This came more than one week after Roland was discovered dead in Roxanne Burnham Gardens with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Several persons were arrested and questioned but later released.
Roland known as `Gangster Roy’ of Lot 25 Castello Housing Scheme, La Penitence, Georgetown was discovered dead around 6.30 am on May 17 on the eastern parapet of Marigold Street.
His family learnt of his death after someone visited their home and informed them of the discovery. As a result, Roland’s father and several other relatives travelled to the scene where they positively identified him.
Persons in the area had recalled hearing what they believed to be the sound of a gunshot shortly after midnight.It is believed that Roland’s killers may have dumped his body from a vehicle.
