St. Rose’s High School clinched the remaining semi-final berth in the girls division of the Youth Guyana Basketball (YBG) Georgetown/East Coast regional Conference tournament edging School of the Nations 17-5 Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
Ashley Khan was the primary threat for the Church Street unit, tallying 13 points and six steals. She was assisted by Jamaica Blair with two points and five steals.
For School of the Nations, Georgiana Vyphuis scored all five points and grabbed the same number of rebounds.
St. Rose’s joins Marian Academy, President’s College and the Bishops’ High School in the elimination round.
Meanwhile, St. Rose’s High maintained their dominance over School of the Nations in the U19 boys section, winning 51-26 margin.
Anthony Yansen led the assault with 19 points, eight rebounds and five steals while captain Mark July provided capable support with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
For School of the Nations, Lindon Garraway top scored with nine points, with the next best scorer being Corey Graham with six points and four rebounds.
The tournament will resume at the same venue on June 23rd with the semi-final rounds in the boys U14 and U16 divisions as well as the girls division.
The quarter-finals of the boys U19 division will also be staged. The event is sponsored by Edward B. Beharry Group of Companies Ltd and the National Sports Commission.
