It has been almost two months since 62-year-old Christopher Singh was knocked down and killed on the Rupert Craig Highway and his family is still pleading with the relevant authorities for clarity on whether someone is going to be charged.
Singh was reportedly riding his motorcycle, CH 5818, on April 20, north along the University of Guyana road, and was crossing the Rupert Craig Highway when he collided with a bus and was pitched several feet away. He was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to Singh’s son, Ram, the driver of the bus had related to the police that Singh had jumped the light while he was crossing the road, which resulted in the collision. However, Ram said, that was not true Ram explained that the driver claimed his father collided with the bus head-on but the damage to his motorcycle suggested otherwise.
“We don’t know what’s going on. The police are not telling us anything and every time we ask them they are saying that the files are with the DPP [Director of Public Prosecutions] but nothing is happening,” Ram told Stabroek News, while explaining that the man who allegedly knocked his father down is still driving on the road.
“It hurts to know that you could just knock somebody down just like that and you could go back on the road like nothing happened. All we want is for there to be progress in the investigation. It has been almost two months, not two weeks and we want to hear something,” the man said. “Even so, it’s been too long and he shoulda been charge long now.”
