A New Amsterdam man, on Thursday, was fined $347,000 and sentenced to five years imprisonment for possession of 1735 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Dwayne David, 23, his brother, Dellon David, 24, his mother, Gloria David, 53, and her boyfriend, Mexford London, all of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam were slapped with a possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge on Thursday, when they appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate Marisa Mittelholzer read a charge to the foursome stating that on Tuesday, June 13, at Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, they had in their possession 1735 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Dwayne, the younger sibling, pled guilty to the charge, was fined $347,000 and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
However, Gloria David, Dellon David and Mexford London were each placed on bail after pleading not guilty to the offence. Gloria, who cited a medical condition to the court was placed on $60,000 bail, while Dellon and London were each placed on $120,000 bail.
According to information gathered, on Tuesday, ranks attached to the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, acting on information received, conducted a search at the home of Gloria David, where a plastic parcel was discovered under the seat of a motorcycle, which contained seeds, stems and leaves
Upon further searching, a black plastic parcel was discovered in the yard which also contained stems, seeds and leaves. The items which were later confirmed to be cannabis, amounted to 1735 grams upon being weighed.
At the time of the search, Mexford, Dellon and Gloria were present at the residence. However, the following day, Dwayne visited the New Amsterdam Central Police Station, where he reportedly admitted to owning the cannabis, while claiming that the three other persons had no knowledge of the items in the parcels.
