The seventh Annual Digicel Schools Football Championship will resume today at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora with a triple-header starting at 11:00hrs.
In the opening fixture, Vreed-en-Hoop battles Patentia Secondary, while Stewartville lock horns with Uitvlugt at 13:00hrs. In the final fixture at 15:00hrs, Goed Fortuin tackles Leonora Secondary.
The action will then move to the Berbice zone tomorrow with four matches.
Over at the Paradise ground in West Coast Berbice, No. #5 Secondary will oppose Rosignol Secondary from 13:00hrs, while Fort Wellington Secondary will faceoff with Frasers Education Institute at 15:00hrs.
At the Burnham Park ground, East Coast Berbice, Berbice High engages Berbice Educational Institute from 13:00hrs and Canje Secondary battles New Amsterdam Secondary from 15:00hr. The championship which is scheduled to conclude on July 31st, will feature more than 120 schools from each of the 10 administrative regions, competing in an elimination format.
Chase Academy is the defending champion, with Christianburg/Wismar the most successful school with four consecutive titles (2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015) in six successive final appearances.
The other winner of the tourney was Government Technical Institute (GTI) in the inaugural edition (2011). Winner of the event will receive $1,000,000 towards a school project and a trophy.
The second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $700,000, $400,000 and $350,000 towards a school initiative and the respective accolade.
