A Kitty woman is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was struck down at the corner of Camp and Robb streets yesterday afternoon.
Injured is Malvena Hope, of Thomas Street, Kitty who was struck down shortly after 5pm as she was standing on the pavement just outside of the Teleperformance Call Centre.
Hope was rushed to the hospital after sustaining head injuries. A young man believed to be the conductor of the bus was also taken to the hospitalwith lacerations on his face.
According to reports reaching Stabroek News, a Route 50 minibus bearing licence plate number BRR 5365 was speeding in an easterly direction along Camp Street when the driver failed to stop at the intersection and collided with a jeep bearing license plate number PNN 9891, causing the jeep to slam into the woman.
“The minibus was speeding coming down Robb Street. I think if the minibus had hit her she would have been dead. The driver was speeding coming down the road like he didn’t want to stop. She just pass me and wave me off,” one eyewitness recounted.
Meanwhile, a friend of the injured woman who was with her at the time of the accident told this newspaper that they had just come from Bourda Market when the accident occurred. “We were standing up at the corner speaking when I heard a noise. I see the bus coming from Robb Street and it smash into the other vehicle and then it smash into her. She fling up in the air and come back down,’ the woman related.
Driver of the jeep, Dr. Emiliano (only name given) said that he was driving on Camp Street when the minibus slammed into him. “The minibus driver is in the wrong.
He is telling the officer that I was coming at a speed. My car was slammed into by his bus and then my car hit the woman. I couldn’t do anything,” the man said.
