Dear Editor,
I understand that the President of the WICB has said that Darren Bravo cannot be selected for the West Indies team unless he gets rid of his tweet that insults the President, and that his ban has been made effectual by the selection for the first part of the Indian tour of the same squad that was recently beaten by Afghanistan.
I believe West Indian fans, administrators and people of influence belittle themselves by allowing those decisions of Mr Cameron to be enforced. In fact I suggest that those people should encourage the Indians to refuse to play or to make a statement or do something that would demonstrate unambiguously their disapproval of Mr Cameron’s abusive conduct. Frankly a decision by a coach or a captain to remove a player from the field as Richards or Gayle did can be supported much more easily than Mr Cameron’s edicts which were obviously not made with a view to promoting the interests of West Indian cricket. It must not be forgotten that Bravo`s tweet was nothing more than a characterization of an error made by the President as a stupid error, that is an error that could have been easily avoided if the President were even minimally diligent in executing one of his more important duties. To be banned for making such a statement in the circumstances is a denial of the right to speak freely in expressing an opinion. That is not and cannot be acceptable. To add insult to injury, persisting with a team that is less experienced than that of Afghanistan to compete against an Indian team that had been stood up brazenly two years ago and have been prepared to drop what was a strong claim against the WICB, is a disgrace.
Mr Cameron is undoubtedly the most insensitive cricket leader the region has ever had. What is most sad and annoying is that like most bullies he believes he is doing a great job. Surely the time has come to put a stop to Mr Cameron’s destructive policies. He no longer even tries to defend those idiotic policies; just wields a big stick.
Yours faithfully,
Romain Pitt
