Jordan Beaton and Kalyca Fraser claimed the boys and girls’ U18 titles while Leyland Leacock and Godfrey Lowden won the over-35 and over-45 divisions respectively when the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Open Lawn Tennis tournament continued Monday.
Leacock defeated Andre Lopes in straight sets 7-7(7/3), 6-4 while Berbician Lowden downed Alexley Almeida 6-1, 7-6(11-9) at the GBTI Racquet Facility, Bel-Air Park.
In the junior boys final, Jordan defeated rising star Joshua Kalekyezi 6-2 6-1. He had reached the final when Heimraj Resaul retired injured in their semi-final matchup.
Fraser made light work of Sarah Klautky winning 6-1 6-1.
In men’s over 35 doubles action
Lopes and Sandeep Chand secured their third win in the round-robin stage, downing the veteran pair of Lowden and Ronald Murray 6-1 6-3. In women’s doubles, Afruica Gentle and Christy Campbell crushed Fraser and Klautky 6-1 6-0 to reach the final where they will oppose Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan and Fiona Bushell.
The event will resume today at the same venue with the men’s Open singles final pitting top seed Anthony Downes against Daniel Lopes.
