An Essequibo woman is in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, after she was stabbed several times about her body by her reputed husband, on Monday.
According to information reaching Stabroek News, Thresha Griffith, 29, of Nunes Canal, Lower Pomeroon River and her reputed husband, Randolph George, 28, of the same address, were at a liquor restaurant at Charity, on Monday at around 2:30pm, when they became involved in an argument.
Griffith was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Tuesday, from the Suddie Public Hospital, Essequibo, after her condition took a turn for the worse.
Yesterday, a sister, Wanita (only name given) said that while her sister is listed as critical, they were able to speak with her briefly.
She explained that her condition had improved from Tuesday when she was admitted at the hospital.
This newspaper was told that George accused her of having a relationship with another man during which an argument ensued.
The argument went on for several minutes, and George reportedly armed himself with a knife and dealt Griffith a stab to her abdomen, one cut to her neck, three cuts to her left breast, two cuts to right breast and two stabs to her stomach.
After the assault, public-spirited citizens reportedly rushed the woman to the Oscar Joseph District Hospital in Charity. However, because of the extent of her injuries, she was transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital and later rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The incident occurred a stone’s throw away from the Charity Police Station, leading to the swift arrest of Randolph George. He remains in police custody assisting with investigation, and will soon be taken before the court.
