Express package has not arrived

Dear Editor,

I was given a prescription by my doctor to buy 3 jars of Sudacream to heal my incision after I underwent a surgery at the Suddie Public Hospital over two months ago. I searched all over the country to get this medication, but I couldn’t find it. I then emailed my sister who is a nurse in the UK to buy it for me, since it was very important for the healing process of my wound. She bought it and posted it on June,6, 2017 via Royal Mail Service Express. She has also sent me the tracking numbers RU87428676168 and asked me to track the parcel.

From the day it left the UK I tracked it until it reached Guyana, and was delivered at the GPO in Georgetown. That was two weeks ago. I kept calling the local post office at Anna Regina to find out if the parcel was there, only to be told that there was nothing there for me.

I am now wondering if someone broached my parcel and took out my cream. I have heard of similar stories where families from overseas sent things to their loved ones here in Guyana and they never received them. My sister had sent me things before and they never took so long to arrive.

I then decided to inform the Prime Minister via email about what had taken place, and he promised to investigate the matter. I do not think it is possible to trust the mail service as long as there are no systems in place to check on things that are coming from outside the country. The administration has to ensure that people’s things are properly secured when they arrive in the county.  People who are employed by the GPO and post offices should be trusted employees. The GPO should install cameras so they can catch any culprits who steal people’s letters and packages.

Yours faithfully,

Mohamed Khan
