The Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 3 pm yesterday at Second Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, involving motor car PVV 4911 and pedestrian Kalicharan Goordial,49 years of Creekdam, Herstelling. Investigations revealed that the pedestrian who was said to be highly intoxicated, was lying in the centre of a cross street when the motor car which was proceeding east along Second Street, suddenly veered north into the cross street and collided with the pedestrian.
Police say that the pedestrian was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination. The driver who fled the scene was arrested and is assisting with the investigation. A breathalyzer test was conducted and no trace of alcohol was found.
