Marian Academy and President’s College will face-off in the U14 boys final following semifinal wins in the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG), Georgetown/East Coast Regionals Friday.
Played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Marian Academy downed Bishops’ High 32-11.
Ethan Fernandes top scored with 10 points and four steals, while Jether Harris and Meshal Allicock chipped in with seven and six points each.
For Bishops’ High, Shamar Lyte and Keon Bacchus scored four points respectively.
In the second encounter, President’s College brushed aside St. Joseph’s High 32-18.
Gabriel Lin top scored for the winner with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Joshua Butts chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.
For St Joseph’s High, Shaqeem Wilson scored 12 points and nine rebounds while Jaheim Jardine added four points.
President College also reached the women’s final by defeating Bishops’ High 22-14.
Analisa Barclay scored 11 points while Saffiya Green added six. For the losers, Demelza Nicholas battled to 10 points and five rebounds.
In the U16 boys section, President’s College edged Bishops’ High 34-32 in extra time to seal their final’s berth.
Lanon Friday scored 10 points and four rebounds for the winners while Akinyele Darrell added 10 points. For the losers, Royden Glasgow and Nkose Branche scored for 10 and six points each.
President College will now meet St. Rose’s High in the final, after the latter downed Marian Academy 38-26.
Anthony Yansen scored 18 points and had six steals while Kwesi Roberts chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.
For Marian Academy, Jether Harris top scored with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Regionals will continue today with the second girls’ semi-final between Marian Academy and St Rose’s at 4pm, followed by four U19 boys’ quarter-final matches.
The Georgetown/ East Coast Regional FINALS are set for Friday, June 30th.
