A six-year-old student of St Angela’s Primary School was yesterday morning knocked down by a Route 44 minibus as she was making her way to school. Tianna Lewis is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where she was admitted after the incident left her with a fractured leg.
According to eyewitnesses, Lewis was making her way across Thomas Street, Georgetown, when she was struck down by the minibus.
The driver of the bus, who spoke to Stabroek News briefly before he was taken into police custody at the hospital, said that the child came out of nowhere and ran into his path. The driver, who refused to give his name, said that he picked up the child and immediately rushed her to the GPH’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
According to a hospital source, Lewis was accompanied to the hospital by a school teacher.
The incident is currently being investigated by the police.
