Two Linden men were yesterday charged with murdering miner Carlos Juan, who was fatally chopped in the interior after a dispute over a water pump.
Dwayne Washington, 25, and Dwayne Hollingsworth, 22, were read the murder charge by Georgetown Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who subsequently remanded them to prison.
The charge stated that on June 9, at Omai Landing, they murdered Wong.
Both men were represented by attorney Dexter Todd, who told the court that on the day in question, someone saw a man who stole a generator run out of the camp and jump overboard.
He added that because the accused were the last two persons at the camp, they were arrested and charged.
The prosecution presented no details in relation to the murder but informed the court that the case file is complete.
Police Commander of ‘F’ Division Ravindradat Budhram had previously told this newspaper that the two men surrendered to police in the company of their lawyer.
Wong, 46, a miner of Half Mile Wismar, Linden was chopped to death following a misunderstanding between him and the suspects over a water pump. Police had said that as a result of the misunderstanding, one of the suspects whipped out a cutlass and dealt chops to his right hand.
The men reportedly fled the scene of the crime and left Wong unattended. He was subsequently taken for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Both men were remanded to prison until July 18, when the case is to be called at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
