A schoolboy fight on Thursday last had the potential to turn deadly when one of the grade six scufflers reached into his bag for a weapon
Witnesses to the fight which occurred at the corner of Robb and Camp streets, explained that students from different schools regularly get into fights.
A taxi driver operating from outside Republic Bank said he intervened after the youngster reached into his bag and another screamed that he had a weapon.
He inspected the bag and a long-shaft screwdriver was found and confiscated. The child claimed to have been keeping the implement for a cousin. He was sent home without it.
Violence in schools continues to be a concern; there have been a number of injuries among feuding students as well as a few deaths.
