The Guyana Futsal Association (GFA) which is responsible for promoting the “professional development and administration” of the sport locally, has commenced the registration process for clubs.
According to a release, “Registered clubs have the following privileges and benefits:
- Become familiarized with Futsal as a discipline of the Global Football industry
- Receive technical assistance from the GFA so that they can become formalized
- Engage in tournaments and competitions organized and approved by the GFA •Attend training workshops, retreats and other educational activities •Contribute to the development of Futsal in their communities and Guyana as a whole”.
The GFA, which was created under the Clinton Urling-led Normalization Committee, is headed by Kenrick Noel (Ag). The other members of the body are first vice-president Mark Younge, Secretary Rawle Adams and treasurer Aubrey Major Jr.
“Since Guyana is yet to seriously acknowledge sports, and in particular football, as an instrument for Social Cohesion and Economic Development, the Guyana Futsal Association (GFA) is optimistic that this registration exercise would pave the way for clubs, sponsors, and other stakeholders to become motivated towards elevating Futsal locally to new heights” the release concluded.
