The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) today said that to facilitate ongoing expansion works at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, the Baggage Scanner at the Arrival Terminal will be moved from its current position to the new temporary Arrival Terminal located east of the current arrival terminal. A release from the GRA said that CJIA Management has advised that the new Temporary Arrival Terminal, may be operational between Thursday, June 29, 2017 and Sunday, July 2, 2017.
GRA said that the relocation of the scanner is scheduled for today resulting in its shut-down on the advice of the technical personnel. This action, which is necessary so as to ensure a safe and secure relocation, will result in a minimum down-time/disruption of important service to travelers, stakeholders, importers, exporters, consolidators, and bond operators.
The GRA also said that the CJIA expansion project is also likely to impact the day-to-day duties and functions of Customs Operations since the area which Customs, CJIA Operations currently occupies will soon be dismantled and replaced by a larger and more modern Departure Area.
