Two nights ago thieves broke into the padlocked storeroom of the Blairmont Crematorium & Memorial Garden (BCMG) and removed six rolls of chain-link fencing material which were stored therein awaiting completion of the fencing of the car park attached to the crematorium.
This is the second time that such a heinous and unconscionable act was perpetrated against the Blairmont Crematorium & Memorial Garden; the first time they stole the slashing machine that was stored therein, necessitating our having to stop storing movable items and use the garage of a public-spirited citizen as the crematorium’s store-room.
So far the local police have not been able to apprehend the perpetrator(s) of the first or latest theft; one can only hope that public spirited residents in the area will help the police to apprehend the people who stole the fencing materials which are not as easy to conceal as the slasher that was previously stolen.
Furthermore, I can only hope and pray that thieves will not now try to remove parts of the beautiful structure of the crematorium that has been serving the entire West Berbice community well for the past several years. These properties belong to the community, serve the community and help to dispose of the dead in a dignified and easy way; stealing from the Blairmont Crematorium is worse than stealing from the dead; it is like stealing from one’s own self or family.
I am using this medium to appeal to members of the public to help us apprehend the criminals and better still to be vigilant in trying to prevent similar occurrences which only act as a discouragement to the many public-spirited people who have contributed generously to the construction, improvement and maintenance of this very useful community service.
